Tennis: Rams win first match

MT. VERNON – Mt. Vernon won for the first time on the tennis this season with a 9-0 victory over Vandalia in girls high school tennis action at Veterans Park.

The Rams dropped three games of the 12 sets played in singles action. 

Priyanka Kaushal defeated Stacy Hudson at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Cammy Conley bested Aleia Beckman at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0 and Charu Jain picked up a victory at No. 3 singles over Allysin Ward, 6-0, 6-0.

Lindsey Lehman defeated Loa Hedapeth at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Maddie McCoy won at No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jaden Johnson. Finally, at No. 6 singles, Samantha Montgomery defeated Alexis Beckman, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles action, Kaushal and Conley defeated Hudson and Hedapeth, 6-2, 6-1, at one doubles action. At No. 2 doubles, Jain and McCoy took care of Aleia Beckman and Ward, 6-1, 6-0. Finally, at No. 3 doubles, Emma Maxey and Carlie Barban picked up the victory over Johnson and Rylee Velazquez, 6-1, 6-0.

The Rams (1-2) travels to Marion today.
