MARION – The Mt. Vernon Lady Rams’ cross country team placed three runners in the top four spots but did not field a complete team Wednesday afternoon in high school cross country action.
The boys featured eight in the varsity race and finished third as a team.
Marion and Carbondale won the boys and girls’ races, respectively, with each gaining 41 points for the victory.
In the boys’ race, Carbondale was second (56) behind Marion followed by Mt. Vernon (67), Centralia (100) and Carterville (116) to round out the top five.
John Bruce of Marion won the race. Evan Owens was Mt. Vernon’s top finisher with a time of 17:47.16 for eighth-place.
Nate Blevins (ninth) finished in a time of 18:10.59. Landon James (15th) crossed in a time of 18:40.98 and Kevin Perkins placed 20th with a time of 19:06.56 to round out the top 20.
For the girls, the Lady Rams finished second, third and fourth.
Bria Moore was second with a time of 21:20.79. Savannah Childers placed third in a time of 21:35.39 and Summer Chelf was fourth at 22:13.97.
Other runners on the boys’ side include Jay Reiss (27th) in a time of 19:44.37, Maliq Petties in 29th-place in a time of 19:58.83, Eli Epplin (30th-place) in 20:01.83 and Isaiah Bradshaw with a time of 20:42.51.
