WSV’s Hannah Garascia named MTC Player of the Year

The Midland Trail Conference released its all-conference softball honors Tuesday. Waltonville/Sesser-Valier was well represented. John Kiselewski was named Coach of the Year, while Hannah Garacia was named Player of the Year.

CLAY CITY – Waltonville/Sesser-Valier’s Hannah Garascia and Spartans’ head coach John Kiselewski were named Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively, as the Midland Trail Conference released its postseason honors on Tuesday.

In addition to Garascia, five players from the Spartans’ softball team were named First Team. Woodlawn – the regular season league champions – had three players named to the First Team.

Waltonville/SV won the regional by defeating Carmi. They went on to defeat the Class 2A defending state champs Carterville in the semifinals of the Harrisburg Sectional before losing to Pinckneyville in the sectional title game.

The Spartans also won the Midland Trail Conference tournament.

Making the First Team from Waltonville/SV was seniors Gretchen Witter and Olivia Massie, as well as sophomores Taylor Witges and Rylee Breeze.

Woodlawn finished second in the MTC Tournament. They went on to win their own regional over South Central. At the Marrissa Sectional, the Lady Cardinals saw their season come to an end in a loss to New Athens.

Making the First team from Woodlawn was junior Kayln Crider and seniors Lexi Knox and Kiara Lueking.

Jefferson County teams occupied seven of the eight spots for Honorable Mention including Taylor Frank and Jaylin Haley (WSV), Madison Tiemann and Callie Lueking (Woodlawn) and Kinzi Hutchinson, Emma Moser and Hayley Hicks (Webber Township).
