WOODLAWN – To end the regular season, Woodlawn hosted Class 2A Breese Mater Dei. The Cardinals found themselves leading early, but the Knights used a five-run fifth on their way to a 6-4 victory Monday in high school softball action.
Woodlawn scored first in the second inning. Callie Lueking reached on an infield hit and scored from first on a triple down the right-field line off the bat of Madison Tiemann.
The slim 1-0 lead held until the fifth inning when Meter Dei scored five times capped off by a three-run homer from Kelcy Gerdes. She finished 1-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI.
Woodlawn will host a Class A regional beginning Tuesday. The Cardinals are the No. 2 seed and will face Webber Township at 4:30 PM
