WSV softball advances thanks in part to perfect game from Gretchen Witter

WALTONVILLE – The Waltonville/Sesser-Valier Lady Spartans advanced to the semifinals of the Midland Trail Conference softball tournament Monday evening with a 16-0 victory over Grayville.

Gretchen Witter pitched a perfect game for the second-seed Spartans to improve to 16-3 in the circle. Of the 15 batters she faced, Witter struck out 10 batters.

Hannah Garascia was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Witter was 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI and Taylor Frank finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a double.

Olivia Massie was 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored, a double and two runs batted in and Jessie Eubanks was 2-for-3 with two RBI.

The Lady Spartans (24-3) will continue MTC play Tuesday. WSV will take on Clay City in the second semifinal contest at 5 o’clock after a 15-1 victory Monday over Webber Township.
